Omarchy Linux

A themed, tiling Linux desktop we install and test. Not an official Omarchy store.

Omarchy is an opinionated Linux system built on Arch Linux, the Hyprland tiling window manager, and the Omarchy desktop. The project describes itself as a finished, beautiful baseline you can then change. We are not Omarchy. We install it, test it, and ship it on machines that call for it.

Why it is on our bench

Omarchy's own site is clear about the point: Linux used to mean a long setup and a pile of choices before you had a working desktop. Omarchy ships defaults that look finished, installs quickly, and is meant to run on a wide range of hardware, including older laptops. That matches how we use it.

Default OS on Intel machines that do not meet Windows 11's hardware requirements.
Optional OS on Windows 11-capable machines, if you ask on the eBay listing before purchase. We pre-install it, test it, and ship that way.
Not used as the assumed OS on Chromebooks.

What you are looking at

Omarchy is keyboard-first and tiled. Windows share the screen in a grid instead of stacking. One theme switch restyles the whole desktop: terminal, editor, top bar, notifications, lock screen, and wallpaper. The project ships more than twenty built-in themes, with many more from the community at omarchy.org/themes.

It is a real Linux system, not a skin on Windows. It is heavier on the terminal than Windows 11 or ChromeOS. That is a fair trade on older Intel hardware that would otherwise sit unused, and it is a genuine choice on newer units if that is how you want to work.

Theme screenshots are from Omarchy, released under the MIT License. They show the stock desktop, not a specific laptop we are selling. Live units, photos, and the OS actually installed are on eBay.

What we test

When Omarchy is the plan, we install it, complete the setup far enough to confirm the machine boots to the desktop, and test the same hardware basics as our other listings: power, display, keyboard, trackpad, ports, Wi-Fi, audio, webcam, and charging. Battery health is recorded when the machine reports it. Exact work is still on that unit's eBay listing.

We do not promise a custom theme, extra packages, or a Windows virtual machine unless the listing says those were set up. Omarchy can run a Windows VM for leftover Windows-only apps. That is optional, and it is not assumed.
